Data Encryption
LDD enables you to centrally
and intelligently define and
automatically encrypt all
data files in any location
on any local drive of each
device. You can specify the
location(s) of your important
files using standard Windows
locations, such as My Documents,
by using traditional file
system paths to target non-standard
folders, or by specifying
files of a particular type
(e.g., all .doc files). This
approach ensures that an organization's
sensitive data will always
be encrypted no matter where
it may reside on the hard
drive(s). Of equal importance,
this method removes that administrative
responsibility and burden
from the user.

Protection
On or Off the Net
LDD has been designed to
prevent unauthorized use of
data on laptops even when
the user is out of contact
with the host server. When
the laptop is on the Internet,
LDD allows the administrator
to directly communicate with
the computer and send rules
and commands to take immediate
action if the device is reported
lost or stolen. These actions,
which can include system disablement
and data elimination, are
persistently executed on the
laptop even if it is subsequently
disconnected from the Internet.
In cases where the laptop
does not again communicate
with the host server after
the loss, LDD will take defensive
action on the device based
on administrator pre-set trigger
rules and conditions including
maximum elapsed time between
communication events and number
of unsuccessful login attempts.
In effect, the user only has
the right to use the data
for a finite period unless
the PC checks in with the
server and, after proper authentication,
is automatically granted an
additional period.
